About Wonderlust

“Which is why I am writing this… To think. To understand. It just happens to be the way I’m made. I have to write things down to feel I fully comprehend them.”
-Haruki Marukami, Norwegian Wood

The primary purpose of this blog is to document my upcoming one year trip touching Asia, the South Pacific and South America. I leave in Mid-September. I reasoned that I would love to have a written record of my past travels. Further, writing helps me to consider and digest. As I am in the midst of a transitionary phase, it is an especially appropriate time.

I left my previous professional engagement at a small, dynamic sporting events hospitality company to join in an entrepreneurial endeavor. While the business fundamentals of this endeavor were solid and attracted substantial investment, the relationships proved shaky. When the venture failed, I was left pondering what next.

A major marker during this period was reading Gandhi’s autobiography. His life awes and inspires me. It led me to earnestly reexamine. What emerged is that I have been setting the bar too low. I gained awareness of my ignorance and faults. I made energizing lifestyle changes and opened myself to new options. It has been invigorating.

Travel is a means towards understanding the many options. It has always provided new and interesting stimuli which provoke growth. It consistently places me in a state of wonder.  I look forward to the fun and the exploration. Friends and family have been beyond encouraging.

I also look forward to engaging myself professionally on the other side of this trip. I will enjoy taking this time to figure out the context. I have given up the lease on my New York City apartment and sold most of my belongings. NYC has been unbelievable during this past 4 years.

I hope you enjoy what is to come in this blog. Please contact me at anytime.
